Product Description
Our FP9A is universally regarded among the best representations of the classic bulldog-nosed F units ever produced. The much requested FP7 builds on this successful platform with two brand new bodyshells and a range of underbody components that perfectly match the specific features of both the Canadian Pacific and Ontario Northland units, including the numerous detail differences between groups of units. The FP7 and FP9A units proved to be well suited to Canadian passenger operations and they formed the majority of the F unit fleet north of the border. The Canadian version of the 1,500hp FP7 with 16-567B prime mover was constructed at London, Ontario, between September 1950 and October 1953 for a total production run of 57 units (35 – CP, 22 – ONR). The Rapido FP7 locomotive is a team effort and a labour of love from a bunch of detail fanatics. As well as our signature features such as all-separate piping under the frame, the body sides feature our unique “No-Warp Grilles” in either Phase I or Phase II Farr variants. Each grill is a C-channel pressed into the shell that won’t warp no matter what humidity and temperature changes it is subjected to. The Rapido HO Scale FP7 features: Designed from original EMD/GMD blueprints and field measurements First ever 100% accurate GMD-built FP7 locomotives – This is not a stand-in Road-number and era-specific details applied at the factory Phase I grilles or Phase II Farr grilles as appropriate Steam generator or no steam generator panel as appropriate Correct fuel tank, end door, and other unit-specific details Unmatched underbody details including air piping Full cab interior Operational headlight and operational ditch lights (if appropriate) Operational numberboards, class lights and backup light (DCC) Drive system designed for silky-smooth slow-speed operation Metal Macdonald-Cartier Knuckle Couplers DC/DCC/Sound versions featuring an ESU Loksound decoder with accurate recordings Several road numbers per paint scheme
