This carrier, which belongs to the Kitty-Hawk class went into service in 1965. The America is part of the Atlantic Fleet of the US Navy, with a crew of more than 5000. This aircraft carrier has a complete force on board which consist mainly of F-14 Tomcats, A-6 Intruders, F-18 Hornets, S-3 Vikings, and E-2 AEW planes. The America is normally accompanied by 20-30 support ships.
After forty years of service, USS America was used for live-fire tests and then scuttled in 2005-over the objections of her former crew. This immense vessel was one of the last conventionally powered supercarriers. Her complement of over 5,000 men deployed her airwings in defense of American interests in Vietnam and numerous Middle-Eastern conflicts. Kit features detailed island and flight deck plus Intruder, Hawkeye, Tomcat, and F/A-18 aircraft.
